Active Design

physical inactivity
We know we need to increase people's level of physical activity to promote good health for everyone. Active design is an emerging concept relating to manipulation of the built environment to encourage activity, particularly incidental (non-structured) movement integrated into usual daily practices, such as stair walking, getting off the bus one stop earlier and moving around the workplace more.
Active design is a relatively new concept and it is not clear how much is known about its impact on health and productivity related outcomes. As an emerging field with possible implications for public health, we need to continue to support active design with scientific evidence, such that a strong case can be made to governments and the private sector to broaden its implementation.
